PVP (Player vs Player)
Dekaron uses a unique PVP (player-versus-player) system to provide risk and rewards to players who want to add an extra element of danger to their gameplay, without placing weaker players at the complete mercy of accomplished veterans.
Duels
In Ardeca, and other designated Safety Zones, no PVP combat is allowed at all, outside of consented duels. A duel is an agreed-upon challenge between to players to fight to the death. To challenge another player to a duel, select the Duel option from the menu under the arrow on the Target Window. The other player must accept within a few seconds, otherwise you cannot duel them.
The Duel Flag will be displayed during a duel, to let other players know that this is just a friendly contest, not a remorseless killer on the loose.
The loser of a duel is not sent back to their Return Point – they can come back to life where they fell. They will lose all temporary effects, such as buffs, however.
Force Attack and Flagging
Outside of Safety Zones, you can initiate a fight with anyone, though you must use the Force Attack function to do so. This is to keep players from attacking each other unintentionally, since many players prefer to live and let live.
If you want to take the chance to live and let die, use Force Attack by holding down the Ctrl key and attacking another player with a skill or auto-attack.
This will initiate PVP combat, and the other player, and any party-mates, will be able to attack you back without restriction.
You will also be flagged as Niete (Evil), and your name will be displayed in purple text to other players as a warning. You will be unable to use teleport items and abilities, guards will attack you if they see you, and players will be allowed to attack you without compromising their own status.
Initiating PVP combat will Flag your character as an aggressor, temporarily changing the color of their displayed name from white to purple, as a warning to other players that you’re in the mood to mix it up. Your flag will go away a minute or so after PVP combat ends.
There are two channels where these rules do not apply. In the non-PK channel, you are not allowed to attack other players under any circumstances. In the PK channel, you may attack players as normal, and you will not receive IP or become Niete for killing enemy players. In order to reward players for the heightened danger, the PK channel has increased experience gain and item drop rate.
IP and Jail
Killing another player in a fight that you started will increase your IP, a point total that tracks how aggressive you are, and can be viewed under the Info tab of your Character Screen. Each aggressive kill increases your IP, with higher IP increases for repeatedly killing the same player character, or for killing a player character whose level is much lower than yours. Your IP naturally decreases by 3 every minute, and only while you are logged in. You can also decrease it by killing monsters, provided they are reasonably near your level. You remain in Niete status and your name will be displayed in red text, as long as you have a positive IP total.
If you are killed while in Niete status, whether by guards, players, or monsters, you’ll be dragged to Braiken Castle Underground Prison beneath Ardeca, a penalty zone which you cannot leave until your IP reaches zero. You can pay bail to decrease your IP in powers of 10, at 500,000 DIL for each IP decrease of 10. Be prepared for the consequences of a life of violence.
